Significance
The spiritual successor to the legendary line of RS 911s, the GT3 has been the most driver-oriented, direct, and involving variant of the 911 since its introduction during the 996 generation. The big news with the 991 generation when it appeared, besides the elimination of the traditional manual gearbox, was the all-new motor, a 3.8 liter naturally-aspirated direct-injected screamer whose 8250 RPM power peak signals what a sensational experience the car truly is. With an equally sophisticated and capable chassis built around a structure 25% stiffer than that of its predecessor, the car is a sensation underway. It is communicative and playful like few modern cars, even with the fabulously quick dual clutch transmission (Car & Driver achieved 0-60 in 3.0 seconds).
